The official Kick-off Meeting of the Erasmus+ KA220 project SUDEM – Sustainable Disaster and Emergency Management Processes Digitization took place on 8 December 2023 at the Space Research and Technology Institute (SRTI), Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria. The meeting marked the official start of the international cooperation and brought together representatives of all project partners to establish the framework for the successful implementation of the project.
During the meeting, the project coordinator introduced the overall objectives, expected outcomes, work packages, implementation schedule, and management procedures. Each partner organisation presented its expertise, previous experience, and planned contribution to the project, highlighting complementary competencies in disaster management, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, IoT, remote sensing, communication systems, and higher education.
The consortium held in-depth discussions on the responsibilities of each partner, cooperation mechanisms, communication procedures, reporting requirements, and the timeline for the first project activities. Special attention was devoted to the development of the learning concept, curriculum structure, and the long-term vision of a joint educational programme in the field of digital disaster and emergency management.
The kick-off meeting established a strong foundation for collaboration among the consortium members and confirmed a shared commitment to developing innovative educational resources and digital solutions that will strengthen disaster and emergency management capacity across Europe.
