SUDEM Consortium

The SUDEM project is implemented by an international consortium of universities, research institutes, and industry partners. Researchers, educators, and practitioners work together to develop innovative educational resources, digital learning tools, and research-based solutions supporting the digital transformation of disaster and emergency management.

Intro

SUDEM – Sustainable Disaster and Emergency Management Processes Digitization is an Erasmus+ cooperation project focused on improving disaster and emergency management preparedness through digitalisation, interdisciplinary education, and modern decision-support technologies.

The project establishes and validates a novel higher education and lifelong learning knowledge transfer model and curriculum focused on the digitalisation of the full disaster and emergency management lifecycle. SUDEM brings together expertise in disaster monitoring and management, AI, IoT, data science, remote sensing, drones, data fusion, resilience, and digital decision-making support to help prepare a new generation of professionals capable of responding to increasingly complex natural, technological, and societal hazards.

SUDEM responds to the growing impact of climate change, urbanisation, infrastructure vulnerability, and complex emergency risks by developing an open digital learning platform, a multidisciplinary curriculum, a foresight-based educational framework, and policy-oriented outputs for higher education and lifelong learning.

Why SUDEM matters

Disaster and emergency management today requires more than traditional response procedures. It increasingly depends on digital monitoring, live data, remote sensing, resilient communication systems, AI-assisted analytics, IoT-supported infrastructure, and informed multi-level decision-making. SUDEM addresses these needs by connecting education, digitalisation, and practical disaster management expertise.
