An international Workshop on Digitalization of Disaster Management was held on 27 April 2026 at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The workshop was organised under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Raja Jamilah Raja Yusof and Dr. Nur Nasuha Mohd Daud and was partially supported by the Erasmus+ KA220 project SUDEM – Sustainable Disaster and Emergency Management Processes Digitalisation.
The workshop brought together researchers, academics, and professionals interested in the application of digital technologies to disaster and emergency management. Participants discussed current challenges and emerging solutions that support the digital transformation of disaster preparedness, monitoring, response, and recovery processes.
Particular attention was devoted to innovative approaches involving artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), data-driven decision support, remote sensing, communication technologies, and digital learning. These topics closely align with the objectives of the SUDEM project, which aims to develop a multidisciplinary educational framework supporting higher education and lifelong learning in sustainable disaster and emergency management.
The workshop also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in strengthening disaster resilience through research, education, and the exchange of best practices. By engaging experts from different countries and institutions, the event contributed to the dissemination of project results and promoted wider awareness of the SUDEM initiative beyond Europe.
The participation of SUDEM in this international workshop reflects the project’s commitment to sharing knowledge, fostering global collaboration, and supporting the adoption of modern digital technologies that improve disaster risk management and emergency response capabilities.
The workshop formed part of the SUDEM dissemination activities, further expanding the project’s international visibility and strengthening cooperation with higher education institutions and research communities worldwide.
