SUDEM aims to improve disaster and emergency management preparedness through digitisation, modern educational design, interdisciplinary knowledge transfer, and open access to learning resources.
Main objectives
1. Build a common European pool of future disaster management experts
To contribute to the creation of a common European pool of adequately prepared disaster management experts equipped with interdisciplinary competences and a strong focus on digital tools, monitoring systems, and data-driven emergency management.
2. Improve disaster management preparedness through digitalisation
To strengthen disaster management preparedness within partner organisations and beyond by integrating AI, monitoring systems, digital infrastructures, and smart disaster management process design into education and training.
3. Provide open and broad access to educational resources
To develop an open digital learning platform and curriculum that support higher education and lifelong learning and ensure broad access to high-quality disaster management learning content.
4. Support more effective disaster prevention, response, and recovery
To improve decision-making capabilities, operational preparedness, and educational uptake of modern technologies in order to reduce disaster impacts, including human losses and damage to critical infrastructure and public systems.
Specific objectives
- analyse current and future disaster management challenges through strategic foresight;
- develop an interdisciplinary curriculum for higher education and lifelong learning;
- integrate AI, IoT, remote sensing, drones, edge computing, resilience, and decision-support methods into disaster management education;
- establish a digital learning and quality feedback environment;
- validate the educational model and curriculum in practice;
- disseminate project results and formulate policy recommendations for stakeholders and institutions.
