SUDEM Project Presented at Smart Vision Rotterdam 2024

Date: 3 October 2024

The Erasmus+ KA220 project SUDEM – Sustainable Disaster and Emergency Management Processes Digitization was presented at Smart Vision Rotterdam 2024, an international interdisciplinary event dedicated to autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and smart infrastructure. The event was organised by STC Group, one of Europe’s leading providers of professional education for the maritime, logistics, and transport sectors, and took place at the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The SUDEM project was presented by Prof. Dr. Arch. Georgi P. Georgiev, project coordinator, during the conference programme. His presentation highlighted the objectives of SUDEM and demonstrated how digital technologies can transform disaster and emergency management through interdisciplinary education, innovative curricula, and advanced decision-support solutions.

Particular attention was given to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), data fusion, and advanced communication technologies into modern disaster management processes. The presentation also showcased the project’s strategic foresight approach and its contribution to preparing future professionals capable of responding to increasingly complex natural, technological, and societal hazards.

The conference brought together experts from academia, industry, public authorities, and technology providers to discuss the future of autonomous systems, smart ports, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence. Participation in this event enabled the SUDEM consortium to present its educational and research achievements to an international audience and to exchange experience with specialists working on innovative digital solutions across multiple application domains.

The presentation generated considerable interest among participants and supported the dissemination of the project’s results beyond the higher education community, strengthening links between academia, research organisations, industry, and public institutions.

Participation in Smart Vision Rotterdam 2024 formed an important part of the SUDEM dissemination activities, increasing the visibility of the project and promoting its mission of advancing the digital transformation of disaster and emergency management through education, innovation, and international cooperation.
